DVM, Co-Founder

Dr. Garvey

Dr. Johanna Garvey, owner of NRVES, is passionate about inspiring other women to pursue practice ownership. With over 15 years of experience, she is highly skilled in critical care, emergency surgery, and urgent care, and is one of the few emergency veterinarians within a two-hour radius who treats reptiles, pocket pets, and other exotic species. Deeply committed to her patients and community, Dr. Garvey treats every animal with compassion as if they were her own. She is also actively involved in animal rescue, helping run a nonprofit and placing numerous animals in loving homes. Outside of work, she is a devoted mother to her four-year-old daughter, Emma. At home, she cares for seven cats, three dogs, guinea pigs, and snakes—reflecting her lifelong love for animals.

Director of Operations, Co-Founder

Dimas F.

Dimas has traveled extensively through his education and professional experience. Working in a variety of hospitals where he has gained valuable knowledge, hands-on experience, and built strong relationships with hospital owners and managers. He has been in the emergency veterinary field since 2018, learning directly from doctors and observing how different hospitals operate. He has also developed connections with entrepreneurs and individuals who have contributed to the development of NRVES. Dimas holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and Infectious Diseases from Virginia Tech’s Veterinary School. He is deeply committed to serving the community through high-quality animal care while also advocating for the well-being of veterinary professionals. Recognizing the challenges within the field—such as low pay, high educational debt, burnout, emotional strain, and lack of recognition, especially for technicians—Dimas aims to be part of the change. His goal is to help create a more sustainable, supportive work environment where staff are valued, fairly compensated, and able to thrive both professionally and personally.
